Stimulate the body to reset, recharge, and heal itself.

The Technique

Bowen therapy involves gentle movements over soft tissue structures. These precise motions override conscious movement and directly stimulate the body’s parasympathetic (healing) mechanisms. This signals the brain to stimulate the body to reset, recharge, and heal itself through a gentle process that doesn’t require inflicting pain or force to achieve results. This signal also stimulates proprioceptors in muscle tissue, sending a message that alerts the nervous system that the emergency that caused the injury is over. Once the body recognizes that it no longer needs to be stuck in this locked state, it begins to heal. These locked states are evident in chronic pain patterns, repetitive stress injuries, and any case where the body isn’t getting proper nutrition and oxygen.

A Bowen Session at IRG

While in a one-on-one setting, an IRG therapist will perform a series of gentle cross-fiber moves over parts of your body, such as ligaments, muscles, tendons, or nerves. Your therapist may pause or even leave the room in between movements to give your body’s nervous system time to integrate the input it has received and to make corrections in muscular tone and alignment.
